Distribution company Roadside Attractions has acquired the U.S. rights to Escape Fire: The Fight to Rescue American Healthcare, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.

The doc on U.S. healthcare, directed by Matthew Heineman and Susan Froemke, will have its theatrical release on October 5. Lionsgate will hold all other rights, under its output deal with Roadside Attractions.

“Before I saw Escape Fire, I thought the problems surrounding health care were unsolvable, but the film shows that we have the power to fix this,” says Roadside Attractions co-president Howard Cohen.

“The upcoming Supreme Court ruling on the federal mandate to buy health insurance guarantees that the health-care debate will be reignited and inserted into the 2012 election in a big way, and this important film offers solutions that need to be part of that dialogue.”
