One of Japan’s largest broadcasters, Asahi Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), and distributor Zodiak Rights have entered into a co-development deal, to create new entertainment formats for international distribution.

This marks the first co-development deal for Zodiak Rights in this territory. The company’s ‘internal creativity and innovation unit’ and ABC will co-create, co-develop and coproduce unscripted entertainment formats.

Formats will go to pilot on ABC and roll out internationally after, with Zodiak Rights retaining international distribution rights to the formats created under this agreement.

“We look forward to collaborating on format development and creating pilots that will spawn internationally successful series,” said Jane Millichip, London MD for Zodiak Rights.

“I have every confidence that with the combined resources of these two leading companies, this co-development deal will result in some exciting programming for the global market,” said Satoshi Wakisaka, president of ABC.
