TLC orders “Cheer Perfection,” “Virgin Diaries” specials

TLC will take viewers into the world of competitive cheerleading in the one-hour special Cheer Perfection.
Due to air on July 11 at 10 p.m. EST/PST following Toddlers & Tiaras, the program will star Alisha Dunlap, coach and co-owner of Arkansas-based gym Cheer Time Revolution, and a quartet of ultra-competitive mothers who are intensely aware that “their own status in the gym is tied to how talented their daughters are as cheerleaders,” according to the network.
The special takes place over a week leading up to tryouts for a new cheerleading team and follows the hopefuls and their moms as they weather injuries, rivalry and drama to succeed. It was produced by Authentic Entertainment with Lauren Lexton, Tom Rogan and Michael Gara serving as executive producers.
The U.S. cable network has also ordered two hour-long specials of the series Virgin Diaries from prodco Road to Awe that will air on July 18 and July 25 at 10 p.m. EST/PST.
The programs promise to take a “lighthearted look” at the dating foibles of older virgins, such as awkward kissing couple Shanna and Ryan from season one (pictured above); a 34-year-old Mormon who lives in his parents’ basement and brings his “Wing Mom” to bars; and a 29-year-old lesbian who loves Star Wars and dodgeball.
The series originally premiered on TLC in December 2011.
