London-based indie Passion Distribution has upped Nick Rees (pictured) from finance director to the newly created role of managing director.

Rees joined Passion in 2009 alongside founder and CEO Sally Miles. He takes on the new role effective immediately. As finance director, he helped build the distribution company into a £17 million (USD$26 million) turnover company, according to Passion.

Prior to his work at the distributor, Rees was senior VP of finance for North America at HIT Entertainment.

“Nick has been instrumental in building and growing the business not only in terms of turnover and profits but to be an efficient well-managed operation,” said Miles in a statement. “I am delighted Nick will be taking on a broader management role in the company allowing me more time with our content partners and to seize global opportunities for the business.”
