The CW fires up Batmobile special

U.S. network The CW is airing The Batmobile, a 30-minute special on the history and evolution of comic-book hero Batman’s automobiles, on July 16.

Ahead of its TV debut, the New Wave Entertainment and Warner Bros program will premiere at Comic Con in San Diego on July 12, where all six Batmobiles from the film and television series will appear together for the first time.

Using archival footage, images and illustrations, the special documents the birth in the 1930s of the Batmobile to its current incarnation as the Tumbler from 2005′s Batman Begins and 2008′s The Dark Knight.

The special also includes interviews with filmmakers, designers, builders, stunt drivers, and fans of the Batmobile, as it traces the impact of the cultural icon.

The current star of the Batman films, Christian Bale, is interviewed, as is the original TV Batman, Adam West, and directors of the Batman films, Christopher Nolan, Joel Schumacher and Tim Burton.

The special was directed by Roko Belic and produced by Tara Tremaine.
