Twofour has produced a six-part series on medical mysteries, to air on U.S net Discovery Fit & Health as I Was Impaled, and internationally through Discovery Networks International under the name Body Invaders.

The 6 x one-hour series tells stories of foreign objects that have been ingested or pierced into people’s bodies, the process of detection, and the groundbreaking techniques used by medical teams to remove them.

Using testimony and CGI reconstruction, the series goes deep into the medical detective work that led to the discoveries, and uncovers how these objects – from fence posts to surf boards – affected the organs around them, influenced behavior and why they were a few inches away from being fatal.

Body Invaders will premiere on Discovery Channel across Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia-Pacific and Latin America in the fall. The U.S. air date for I Was Impaled on Discovery Fit & Health is September 8 at 10 p.m. EST/PST.

“What’s great about Body Invaders is that it will truly amaze our viewers,” said Elizabeth McIntyre, VP of production and development for factual programming for DNI, who commissioned the series. “We worked with various medical experts and doctors to help understand the science behind these stories. Through their research, we were able to ensure that our viewers were seeing both factual and accurate testimonials of some of the most amazing stories of survival out there.”

For Discovery Networks International, Helen Hawken is executive producer, and for Twofour, the executive producer is Bridget Sneyd.
