TIFF ’12: Films We Like to distribute Drafthouse titles in Canada

Ronn Mann’s Toronto-based film distribution company Films We Like has partnered with Drafthouse Films, the distribution arm of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, to distribute Drafthouse’s curated brand of genre films in Canada.

“We were initially drawn to the name of Ron Mann’s integral operation which is also his mission statement, and we share the same mantra at Drafthouse Films by only distributing films we truly love and believe in. Films We Like is a perfect DNA match for our brand and we are thrilled to have our films represented in Canada,” said Drafthouse Films’ COO James Emanuel Shapiro.

“I have been a long-time fan of the Drafthouse brand which revolutionized movie-going at the Alamo Drafthouse and mind-bended audiences at the annual Fantastic Fest,” said Films We Like president Mann in his own statement.

The first film covered under the deal is theatrical, home video and multi-platform release for The Ambassador (pictured above) this fall.

The doc is a gonzo journalism project from director Mads Brugger (who also stars) uncovering the politics and exploitation (including blood diamonds and bribery) in the Central African Republic.

The deal also includes Wrong, a surreal comedy from Quentin Dupieux, about a man’s search for his kidnapped dog and his encounters with strange characters along the way; and Bullhead, from Michael R. Roskam.

The deal was negotiated by Mann of Films We Like and Shapiro of Drafthouse Films.
