UK distributor Dogwoof has acquired all UK rights for Andreas Koefoed and Christian Bonke’s Ballroom Dancer, including theatrical, DVD and online rights.

The film, which won the best documentary feature prize at the Raindance Film Festival, will have a theatrical release in the UK next year.

Ballroom Dancer premiered at last year’s CPH:DOX in Copenhagen and follows Vyacheslav “Slavik” Kryklyvyy, a former World Latin Dance champion, as he tries to recapture his former glory with his lover and new dancing partner Anna.

The doc won the filmmakers the Tribeca Film Festival prize for best new documentary filmmaker.

Dogwoof’s head of distribution Oli Harbottle said: “Ballroom Dancer is a fantastic addition to our catalog, having had a hugely successful festival life, and I have no doubt that the film will resonate with the large dancing community here in the UK on its release early next year.”
