“Jungle Gold” opens strong for Discovery

Raw TV’s new Discovery series Jungle Gold had a golden debut last Friday, delivering 2.76 million P2+ viewers, according to the network.
The premiere episode, “Culture Shock,” was Discovery’s highest-rated series premiere this year to date in key demos, and was the fifth highest series premiere overall for the network. According to ratings from The Nielsen Company, it was the number two cable original program with a 1.1 rating in adults 18-49, placing it under the season three premiere of Gold Rush.
That program not only proved to be a strong lead-in for Jungle Gold, but also performed quite well in its own right. The season premiere episode, “Million Dollar Season,” drew 4.45 million viewers in P2+, according to Discovery.
The one-two punch of both programs not only resulted in the highest-rated October night in Discovery Channel history, but it also made the net the top TV destination among men in key demos, outperforming broadcast networks as well.
