Burbank-based Original Productions (OP) has upped two of its key executives, Philip Segal and Jeff Conroy, following the move of founder and executive producer Thom Beers to the CEO position at FremantleMedia North America.

Segal has been promoted to CEO and executive producer, replacing Beers, who remains chairman of Original Productions, the prodco behind the smash hits Deadliest Catch, Ice Road Truckers, Bering Sea Gold and Storage Wars.

Segal joined Original in 2005 as president and executive producer, with operating responsibility for the production company’s thousands of hours of programming. He serves as exec producer on Discovery’s Bering Sea Gold, A&E’s Storage Wars and History’s Ice Road Truckers among other shows.

Jeff Conroy, meanwhile, has been upped to president and executive producer at the company. Conroy, an exec producer on Discovery’s Deadliest Catch, joined Original in 2001 and became vice president of programming in 2007, and was subsequently upped to executive vice president of programming in 2011.

Both promotions come a few months after the appointment of Original Productions founder Beers as CEO of Original parent company FremantleMedia North America in late August.

“This is a seamless transition for Original Productions,” said Beers in a statement. “Both Phil Segal and Jeff Conroy have been a driving force for nearly 10 years and share my creative know-how and business vision to lead Original into the future. There are some very clear opportunities for Original Productions in scripted and unscripted programming in the current market environment, and Phil and Jeff are the perfect people to lead the team and continue to deliver the ground-breaking content we’re known for.”

“Thom’s confidence in us to run the company is truly an honor,” said Segal. “Jeff Conroy and I have partnered successfully the past seven years at OP, complementing our mutual creative and business approaches.”

“Phil and I have been extremely fortunate to collaborate on what has become some of America’s highest rated television series,” added Conroy. “This is a smooth transition for us and our team at Original Productions.”
