BBC Worldwide names chief brands officer

BBC Worldwide, the UK pubcaster's commercial arm, has named BBC Earth MD Amanda Hill (pictured) to the newly created role of chief brands officer.

BBC Worldwide, the UK pubcaster’s commercial arm, has named BBC Earth MD Amanda Hill (pictured) to the newly created role of chief brands officer.

The new role is part of the restructuring BBC Worldwide detailed in June. Hill will exit her BBC Earth role to take on the new Worldwide job in the early part of this year, where she will be responsible for developing an overall strategy for BBC Worldwide’s global brands, including Dancing with the Stars, Top Gear and BBC Knowledge.

She has worked at BBC Worldwide for 10 years, serving as head of factual and lifestyle in 2002, before becoming head of content direction. She has worked with the BBC Earth brand since its debut in 2009, and has established a dedicated YouTube channel, a commercial productions unit and a production slate including Walking with Dinosaurs 3D and Enchanted Kingdom 3D, projects on which she also serves as executive producer.

Paul Dempsey, interim CEO of BBC Worldwide, said of Hill: “She has an outstanding record in growing brands such as Walking with Dinosaurs and BBC Earth, and I have no doubt that she is the right person to build and develop our core brands around the world. She will… play a key role in bringing us closer to our global audiences as we drive forward our restructuring plans.”
