“Sugar Man,” “Gatekeepers,” “Plague” among Oscar nominees

Searching for Sugar Man, The Gatekeepers, 5 Broken Cameras, How to Survive a Plague and The Invisible War are the five Best Documentary Feature nominees for the 85th Academy Awards.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences said the officially nominated producers and directors are still to be determined for all of the doc features, except for 5 Broken Cameras, where the nominees are co-directors Emad Burnat and Guy Davidi.

In the Best Documentary Short category, the nominees are Sean Fine and Andrea Nix Fine’s Inocente, Sari Gilman and Jedd Wider’s Kings Point, Cynthia Wade and Robin Honan’s Mondays at Racine, Kief Davidson and Cori Shepherd Stern’s Open Heart and Jon Alpert and Matthew O’Neill’s Redemption.

In addition, the song “Before my Time,” from the documentary Chasing Ice, was nominated in the Best Original Song category. The song is written by J. Ralph and features Scarlett Johansson and Joshua Bell.

The winners will be named at the 85th Academy Awards ceremony in Hollywood on February 24.
