Factual prodco Pioneer Productions is looking to grow into factual entertainment, and has hired Steph Weatherill (pictured), formerly of Renegade Pictures, to lead its fledgling department.

Responsible for building Pioneer’s factual entertainment output and team, as the company expands its returning formats and series, Weatherill will report to Kirstie McLure, the company’s senior VP and MD; and Stuart Carter, Pioneer’s chairman. She will hold the title of head of factual entertainment.

This is the latest personnel move for Pioneer, after the UK indie restructured in October, elevating McLure and Carter to their current positions, and Jeremy Dear to senior VP and head of factual.

Previously, Weatherill was an exec and founding series producer on Renegade Pictures’ Don’t Tell the Bride for BBC3, and Cherry Healey: How To Get a Life.

“Factual entertainment is an area we are really looking to develop under her leadership and we know that she will bring her expertise and skills to create some great new programming that will have international appeal,’” said McLure.
