BBC Worldwide Channels has commissioned UK indie Outline Productions to produce the factual entertainment format Million Dollar Intern.
Fully funded by BBC Worldwide Channels, the 10 x 48-minute series will premiere on BBC-branded channels around the globe this summer. Million Dollar Intern will air on BBC Knowledge in Africa, Asia, Australia, Cyprus, Hungary, Italy, New Zealand, the Nordic region, Poland and Romania; BBC Entertainment in Latin America; and BBC HD in Latin America, the Nordic region, Poland and Turkey.
The series stars business whiz kids from around the world who work for a week in the lowest position of struggling companies. Posing as ordinary interns doing menial tasks, they will also be monitoring the company to see where the problems lie. Once they reveal their credentials, they will also share their ideas on how to fix the business.
BBC Worldwide holds all commercial rights to Million Dollar Intern, including global broadcast and distribution.
“The concept of entrepreneurship, especially among young people, has great universal appeal, and I have no doubt that Million Dollar Intern will do really well with our international audience,” said Tracy Forsyth, VP of commissioning for BBC Worldwide Channels. “Outline Productions pitched a fantastic format, with huge potential to run and run – exactly the type of high quality, returnable series that I’m seeking for BBC Worldwide’s channel portfolio.”
