Banijay has secured a Turkish primetime series commission for its recently revived reality-talent format Popstars.

Turkish networks Star TV and Star TV International will air a 13 episode series, which is to be produced in Turkey by STR. Popstars, created by Banijay Group company Screentime, originally ran in Turkey for seven seasons. The new Turkish production will follow the original model, kicking off on March 14.

Banijay International MD Karoline Spodsberg said: “Popstars is the shiny floor talent show with heart. We have had a huge response from international broadcasters looking for a well-known yet refreshed and relevant talent quest format since we re-launched the show at MIPCOM.

“This sale and the others in the pipeline are testament to the fact that this is the right time for a revival of this iconic brand.”

The re-launched version of Popstars is also set for adaptation on French network D8.
