Discovery Communications has promoted Eric Phillips from EVP of domestic distribution to president.

Phillips, who has been with Discovery for 10 years, will continue to report to Bill Goodwyn, president and CEO of Discovery Education and Strategic Distribution, and will oversee content distribution sales and marketing on behalf of Discovery’s U.S. networks.

Since joining the company in 2002, Phillips has been responsible for negotiating carriage agreements with all of the top cable, satellite and telco distributors for the company’s 14 U.S. networks as well as overseeing the business unit’s budget, legal and financial compliance efforts and operations.

“Eric is a fantastic leader, and his contributions to Discovery over the past decade have been invaluable,” said Goodwyn in a statement. “Eric will bring his deal acumen and deep understanding of the distribution marketplace to his role as president. I look forward to continuing to work with him to guide Discovery through our future affiliate landscape.”
