Journeyman sells “Steele” doc to Euro nets

UK-based factual distributor Journeyman Pictures has penned a number of deals for Searching for Steele, an investigative documentary from BBC Arabic and Guardian Films.

UK-based factual distributor Journeyman Pictures has penned a number of deals for Searching for Steele, an investigative documentary from BBC Arabic and Guardian Films.

The 52-minute doc, which first aired under the title The Search for Retired Colonel James Steele, is the product of a 15-month joint investigation between The Guardian newspaper and BBC Arabic.

It alleges that the Pentagon sent Ret’d Colonel James Steele, a U.S. veteran of the “dirty wars” in Central America, to Iraq to oversee police commando units that tortured detainees for information on the Insurgency. The investigation also links General David Petraeus in the chain of command for the operation.

The film is available on The Guardian’s website and was broadcast by BBC Arabic on March 7. Journeyman has now sold it to VRT (Belgium), YLE (Finland), SVT (Sweden), DRTV (Denmark), NRK (Norway) and TVN (Poland), and is in negotiations for deals with nets in Australia, Germany, Russia and Spain.
