Vimeo launches self-distribution service

The video-sharing platform has launched Vimeo on Demand, an open self-distribution service that allows content creators to sell their work directly to viewers and pocket 90% of the profits.

Video-sharing platform Vimeo has launched an open self-distribution service called Vimeo on Demand, for content creators to rent or sell their work directly to viewers.

Available to Vimeo PRO members, the service allows users to customize pricing, regional availability, and the design of their page. Content creators can keep 90% of the revenue after transaction fees.

Launched at the SXSW festival in Texas, Vimeo on Demand is viewable on desktop and mobile (Android/iOS/Windows); connected TV devices (Apple TV/Roku/Google TV/Xbox Live); and smart TV platforms (Samsung/Panasonic/Phillips).

“Vimeo is committed to empowering creators with tools to display and distribute their work in beautiful HD quality,” said Vimeo chief executive Kerry Trainor. “With the addition of Vimeo On Demand, creators can now use Vimeo to control the way they earn revenue and retain a significant portion of the proceeds.”
