London-based distributor Mercury Media International has named Nick Ware (pictured) acting MD, with founder and CEO Tim Sparke stepping back from day-to-day responsibilities.

Ware, a former managing editor of BBC4 and creative director of BBC Learning, previously worked with Mercury Media in 2009 and 2010 as MD during the launch of the company’s VoD service, Joining the Docs. He takes on his new role effective immediately, as Sparke shifts “to focus on key projects,” the company said.

“I’m delighted to be returning to work with Mercury Media at a time of considerable expansion in its activities,” said Ware. “Mercury has had a great reputation as a leading documentary distributor, and we have many exciting projects that I am looking forward to getting my teeth into.”

Sparke added: “Nick brings lots of experience as well as prior knowledge of the company, and I’m really pleased to be working with him again.”
