After premiering at Sundance in January, Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s buzzy Blackfish makes its way to MIPTV in Cannes next week, where Dogwoof will be representing both UK and foreign rights.

The 83-minute feature doc tells the story of Tilikum, a performing whale that has been linked to the deaths of three people while in captivity. It features previously unseen footage and emotional interviews, which “explore the creature’s dual nature, the lives and losses of the trainers, and the pressures brought to bear by the sea-park industry,” according to the film’s billing.

Shortly after premiering in Park City, Magnolia and CNN Films picked up U.S. rights for the film in a joint deal. The film continues its festival run at Hot Docs in Toronto later this month.
