Syria Behind the Lines, Lights Out!, Sand Wars and The Search for the Origin of Life are among the new additions to PBS International’s catalog.

Produced for ‘Frontline’ by Quicksilver Media, Syria Behind the Lines shows life on both sides of a sectarian war. Directed by Olly Lambert, the doc sees friends and neighbors of different faiths battling in a religious feud.

PBS International has also acquired Lights Out!, a 42-minute doc looking at the harm caused by light at night, while Sand Wars investigates the battle for the world’s silica supply.

The Search for the Origin of Life is a 54-minute doc following four groups of researchers from NASA’s elite Astrobiology Institute as they aim to answer the question of how life began; and The Retirement Gamble is a 53-minute ‘Frontline’ report on troubled American financial institutions protecting retirement savings.

“We’re pleased to add these new films to our solid line-up of new releases for MIPTV,” says Tom Koch, VP of PBS International. “We’re bringing more than 80 hours of new programs to the market, which is a very important event for us.”
