Tribeca ’13: FilmBuff lands “Red Obsession”

FilmBuff has picked up digital distribution rights to Russell Crowe-narrated wine doc Red Obsession, ahead of the film's North American premiere at Tribeca in New York on Saturday (April 20).

FilmBuff has picked up digital distribution rights to Russell Crowe-narrated wine doc Red Obsession, ahead of the film’s North American premiere at Tribeca in New York on Saturday (April 20).

The doc, directed by Warwick Ross and David Roach, follows “the history, triumphs and global economic complexities of the holy grail of fine wines, Bordeaux,” according to its billing. FilmBuff will release it digitally in September.

The film had its world premiere in Berlin in February. Following its April 20 screening, it will play again at Tribeca on April 22, 25 and 27. The doc is exec produced by Robert Coe.

In a statement, Ross and Roach said: “With the Tribeca Film Festival premiere and the release of the film digitally in September, we are excited to have as many audiences as possible experience the depth and beauty of Bordeaux.”

Steve Beckman, FilmBuff’s head of acquisitions, added: “The boldness of the Bordeaux wine is mirrored perfectly by the self-assured filmmaking of Warwick and David.

“The film has such a broad appeal that everyone from wine enthusiasts to international relations junkies to film buffs will enjoy it immensely.”
