Among the season premieres and renewals news for this week, two series from Pilgrim Studios, Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy and Top Shot, are coming back to History in May, and Investigation Discovery wants more Dark Minds (pictured).

History has lined up more blue-collar explorations of subcultures, with a new season of Only in America With Larry the Cable Guy launching on May 8 at 9 p.m.

The third season of the Pilgrim Studios-produced series sees the American comedian and his crew returning to spotlight the people, places and things that make the U.S. unique. The upcoming season will see Larry celebrating the modern-day black gold rush in North Dakota, joining the paparazzi in California to explore celebrity obsession, and finding poisonous snakes in Florida to give to the “Serpentarium.”

Craig Piligian and Eddie Rohwedder are executive producers for Pilgrim Studios and Larry the Cable Guy and J.P. Williams are executive producers for Parallel Entertainment, while Susan Werbe handles the executive producer role for History.

The network has also ordered a fifth season of competition series Top Shot, also from Pilgrim Studios, to premiere on May 29. Top Shot: All Stars will bring back four champions from the previous seasons – Iain Harrison, Chris Reed, Dustin Ellermann and Chris Cheng – as they battle against 12 prior competitors.

The ultimate winner of the shooting competition series will receive US$100,000 and a Top Shot special edition Tahoe Q5i Speedboat. Colby Donaldson returns as host.

Over on Investigation Discovery, a third season of Dark Minds has been ordered, with filming beginning at the end of this month.

The Beyond Productions series follows non-fiction crime author M. William Phelps and criminal profiler John Kelly (pictured, above) as they tackle unsolved homicides that are believed to be the work of serial killers. They also have the input of a convicted serial killer who comes up with theories about motives.

Dark Minds is set to premiere on Investigation Discovery in the second quarter of 2014.

For Beyond Productions, John Luscombe is executive producer and Andrew Farrell is showrunner. For Investigation Discovery, Eugenie Vink is executive producer.
