UK terrestrial ITV is ending its skating competition series Dancing on Ice, with 2014′s ninth season set to be the last.

The show is made in-house by ITV Studios, and ITV is promising a final season with “nail-biting new format twists.”

In a statement, ITV’s director of television Peter Fincham said: “Dancing on Ice has been a firm favorite with viewers since it launched eight years ago and we all have every intention of going out on a high next year.

“It is always a difficult decision to say goodbye to successful and long-running shows but with change comes opportunity and the chance for us to bring in new and exciting programs for our viewers.”
