All3Media International has licensed the Undercover Boss format to Shanghai Media Group’s network Dragon TV, which will produce a local version.

The distributor worked with local representatives CMM-I to broker the deal, which sees Dragon TV signing on for a 13 episode season.

The Studio Lambert format slips the top boss of a company into the lowest level job in the workplace, in order for the top execs to learn what employees really think of them and their companies.

So far the finished program has been acquired in over 200 territories, with local formats produced in Canada, Australia, Denmark, France and the U.S. The finished program already airs in China on CCTV 2.

“We are delighted to be working with one of China’s leading broadcasters who have already proven themselves to be a modern and dynamic partner and we are delighted to be growing our business partnership with Dragon TV and Shanghai Media Group into a new genre for China,” said Stephanie Hartog, EVP of international formats at All3Media International.

“We are excited to see the world’s top non-studio format making its foray into China,” said CMM-I consultant Florian Fettweis. “We are optimistic that the Chinese version of Undercover Boss will not only be a great show that inspires audiences, but that it also has the potential to open up a new formats era in China where more non-studio formats find their way into the market.”
