Australian prodco Northern Pictures has hired former ABC Australia exec Karina Holden for the new role of head of production and development.

Holden was most recently commissioning editor for science and natural history at Australia’s ABC Television, and has a 10-year history in independent factual TV production at companies including Southern Star, Becker Entertainment and Beyond International.

“Karina has a dynamic track record working in both the independent sector and within the national broadcaster and as such has developed a unique sensibility and understanding of the industry and its challenges,” said Northern Pictures MD Sue Clothier.

Holden added of Northern Pictures: “The company already has a great reputation for quality journalism and blue chip programming. With its reach into the international marketplace, Northern Pictures has the opportunity to be a global leader in creating programming with impact.”

The news comes after former Fox Networks Group president David Haslingden (pictured) acquired Northern Pictures earlier this year, for an undisclosed sum, as revealed by realscreen in February.
