CBS has promoted Chris Castallo (pictured) to exec VP of alternative programming, overseeing all non-scripted series programming for the U.S. broadcaster and succeeding the soon-to-depart Jennifer Bresnan.

Castallo previously served under Bresnan as senior VP of alternative programming. Bresnan is departing to relocate to New York, as reported yesterday (August 1).

“Chris is a skilled executive who thinks like a programmer, producer and promoter all at once,” said CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler.  “He’s a terrific combination of a hands-on executive with a great vision for the genre, and we look forward to his leadership in this area.”

Castallo joined CBS in 2007 and worked closely with Bresnan on all of CBS’s franchise reality series, as well as the launch and ongoing production of Undercover Boss. He joined CBS from NBC, where he was senior VP of development.
