Vienna-based distributor Autlook has picked up the worldwide rights for German documentary Master of the Universe (pictured).

Directed and produced by Marc Bauder, the film features an extended interview with Rainer Voss, a former investment banker who gives a disturbing insider’s account of the financial crisis from within an abandoned bank in Frankfurt’s financial district.

Earlier this month, the film premiered at the Locarno Film Festival, where it won the Critic’s Week prize and screened to sold-out audiences.

“Thanks to the worldwide success of both Capitalism, A Love Story in 2009 and Inside Job in 2011, the power of the banking system was examined,” said Salma Abdalla, Autolook’s theatrical director, in a statement, adding that this film adds “a face and voice to the anonymous guild of bankers” and “urgent and important access to the mindset of a ruling class.”

Abdalla and Autlook CEO Peter Jager will attend the Toronto International Film Festival next month to present the film to buyers and look for a famous narrator to dub Voss’s voice.

Master of the Universe was coproduced by Bauderfilm Austria’s NGF Geyrhalter Film.
