51 Minds’ CEO Cris Abrego (pictured, left) and Original Media’s co-founder and CEO Charlie Corwin (right) have been named co-chairmen and co-CEOs at Endemol North America.

Their remit includes business expansion and increased non-scripted and scripted output across broadcast and cable television, as well as digital platforms, for Endemol USA companies Authentic Entertainment, Endemol Studios, 51 Minds, Original Media and True Entertainment.

Replacements for Abrego and Corwin at their respective prodcos will be announced at a later date as they step into their roles, effective immediately.

The appointments come following the news that David Goldberg would be stepping down as chairman and CEO, after more than 13 years with the company.

As co-founder of 51 Minds, Abrego’s credits include The Surreal Life, Flavor of Love, Lala’s Full Court Life and TI and Tiny: The Family Hustle.

After Endemol acquired a majority stake in 51 Minds in 2008, the company expanded to produce E!’s Scouted, CBS’ Same Name, CMT’s Redneck Island and ABC’s Whodunnit?

Corwin has led Original Media to success with Miami Ink and its spin-offs LA Ink and NY Ink, Swamp People for History, and led development for Kevin Smith’s Comic Book Men for AMC, Storm Chasers for Discovery and The Rachel Zoe Project for Bravo.

Endemol acquired a majority stake in the company in November 2007.

“Charlie and Cris are world-class creative entrepreneurs who have built their respective companies through the creation and production of great, must-watch content during their time within Endemol,” said Tim Hincks, president of Endemol Group.

“They combine energy, ambition and vision with an understanding of the values that define Endemol. We couldn’t ask for stronger candidates to lead our North American operations into a new phase of accelerated growth and creativity.”

“As a member of the Endemol family for the past six years, I’ve seen first-hand how the company’s dynamic and far-sighted approach makes it a key part of global entertainment today,” added Corwin. “This new role is an amazing opportunity for further innovation and growth, especially as I’ll be working alongside Cris, who’s one of the most talented people in the business.”
