MIPCOM ’13: STV, Red Arrow pen strategic partnership

Scotland's STV Productions and Munich-based Red Arrow Entertainment Group have signed a strategic international partnership, incorporating co-investment, co-development and worldwide distribution.

Scotland’s STV Productions and Munich-based Red Arrow Entertainment Group have signed a strategic international partnership, incorporating co-investment, co-development and worldwide distribution.

The multi-year deal, which involves investment from both companies, will enable the two partners to work closely together to develop formats for the UK and international markets, the companies said.

Newly created formats will then be coproduced and piloted on STV’s core channel in Scotland before being taken to the international market.

In conjunction with the expanded partnership, STV Productions is also to continue its format deal with U.S. indie Kinetic Content, which is part of the Red Arrow Entertainment Group. Kinetic and STV first signed an exclusive agreement to license each other’s original formats in their respective countries in 2010.

In addition, Red Arrow will become STV Productions’ worldwide distributors for completed programs and formats, outside the UK, from January 2014.

Alan Clements, director of content for STV Productions, said: “STV Productions is an extremely ambitious content business and this partnership offers fantastic potential to build on the success of our business in an international market, while working alongside the creative and talented Red Arrow Entertainment Group team to develop brand new ideas for coproduction.”

Jan Frouman, group MD for Red Arrow Entertainment Group, added: “On the back of the existing deal between STV Productions and Kinetic, we have formed an excellent working relationship with Alan and his team.”

STV Productions currently works with Red Arrow Entertainment Group and Kinetic Content on Fake Reaction, a panel show produced for ITV2 in the UK; and the firms previously joined forces for Perez Hilton Super Fan, a four-part series for ITV2.
