Fox International Channels (FIC) has launched a new unit, hiring Christian Barcellos (pictured) to head it up as exec VP of lifestyle and reality programming.

In the newly created role, Barcellos will oversee the development, production and acquisitions of FIC’s original lifestyle and reality programming.

He will also be charged with developing and implementing a long-term programming plan for Fox Life, delivering a slate for the group’s global lifestyle brand.

He will take up his New York-based role in November, and will report to FIC president and CEO Hernan Lopez.

Barcellos was most recently the VP of production and executive producer at Bravo in the U.S. He has overseen Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Inside the Actors Studio and five of The Real Housewives series, among others. Prior to Bravo, he was the creative director at Rainbow Media.

The creation of the unit and his appointment are part of FIC’s strategy to increase original content, the company said.

“Around the world, the Fox brand is synonymous with original, breakthrough content in entertainment and sports. Now we want to achieve that status with lifestyle and reality programming. Christian is a creative force who has helped shape the genre in the U.S.,” said Lopez.

“This is my dream job – working for a visionary company expanding into uncharted territory,” added Barcellos. “It combines the kind of brand-building I enjoyed at Bravo and my formative years spent outside the U.S., that left an indelible imprint on my creative outlook.”
