Outside Television, Red Bull link for Baumgartner docs

U.S. cable network Outside Television has signed a pact with Red Bull Media House for 45 hours of programming, including several documentaries featuring Stratos space jumper Felix Baumgartner (pictured).

U.S. cable network Outside Television has signed a pact with Red Bull Media House for 45 hours of programming, including several documentaries featuring Felix Baumgartner.

The adventure lifestyle network, available in 30 million homes, will air five original series and a number of feature documentaries starring Baumgartner, the “Supersonic Man” who did the Stratos space jump from a helium balloon last year, on its primetime schedule.

The projects include Mission to the Edge of Space: The Inside Story of Red Bull Stratos, set to premiere in late January. The doc features behind-the-scenes footage that shows previously unknown challenges faced by the mission, including interviews with members of the team.

The Felix Baumgartner Story looks at Baumgartner’s past daredevil events, including BASE jumping off the Petronas Tower in Kuala Lumpor and France’s Millau viaduct. The doc also includes interviews with his friends and travel companions, and input from Baumgartner.

Felix Baumgartner: The Cave looks at his successful BASE jump into the Mamet Cave in Croatia’s Velebit National Park.

The deal is an extension of a previous partnership between Outside and Red Bull Media House, and includes the upcoming series The Art of Flight, Where the Trail Ends, Xtreme Collxtion, eXplorers and Ultimate Rush 2. 

The agreement was brokered by Jonathan Stern, director of business development and partnerships for Red Bull Media House North America; and Rob Faris, senior VP of programming and production for Outside Television.

“The combination of Red Bull Media House and Outside creates huge synergies for both of these active lifestyle brands, our related media activities, and our ongoing opportunities to create some of the most exciting adventure programming on the entire planet,” said Faris. “We’re excited to keep this thing going and get busy with the next wave of expansion to this successful partnership.”
