Maker Studios has hired Yahoo! video strategist Erin McPherson (pictured) to be its chief content officer.
McPherson will head up the multichannel YouTube network’s content and programming strategy as the company organizes its content around four areas (men, women, family, entertainment), according to multiple U.S. news reports. She will report to executive chairman Ynon Kreiz.
“Erin is one of the most respected executives in original online video content and has a track record of developing popular programming across a variety of categories; she understands large-scale online video production,” said Kreiz in a statement. “This is a key position for Maker as we plan to break the mold on traditional programming concepts, and produce and distribute a large slate of original video content across our vertical hubs.”
As Yahoo!’s vice president and head of video programming and originals, McPherson oversaw the launch of Yahoo Screen, Yahoo Studios and inked third-party deals with ABC News, CBS/Insider, Playtone and Broadway Video Entertainment, among others. Prior to joining Yahoo!, she was an entertainment lawyer.
With more than 100 new shows in development, Maker plans to launch 20 new vertical brands early next year, the company said.
