A+E Networks has set up A+E Networks Italy to launch and operate the cable network group’s channels in the European country.

The Rome-based company will launch Crime + Investigation on Sky Italia on December 16, and is working towards taking full ownership of History Italy early next year, in partnership with Fox International Channels.

Management appointments for the new Italian arm will be announced in the months ahead, the company said.

Crime + Investigation will air titles including The First 48, Panic 9-1-1 and Evil Up Close, while History Italy will launch big-character franchises and scripted series in the new year.

“The formation of A+E Networks Italy marks an important milestone for A+E Networks as it is our first wholly-owned operation in Europe,” said Nancy Dubuc, president and CEO of A+E Networks. “We are committed to continued international expansion of our brands and business, and we are excited about growth opportunities throughout Italy and all of Europe.”
