German network WDR is teaming up with Munich-based producer-distributor Autentic to launch a joint venture firm that will distribute documentaries.

The 50-50 JV, which will be called Autentic Distribution, will be headquartered in Cologne, and will market the complete non-fiction catalogs of both firms, effective immediately.

It will also offer programming from other German and international producers, and will be overseen by Anne Hufnagel, who serves as general manager.

Michael Loeb, WDR Mediagroup’s CEO, said: “With Autentic at our side, we have a partner with exceptional expertise in the distribution of high quality documentaries. We are very pleased to focus on German and international firms as sales clients in our joint venture, and to position ourselves on the market, ready for all future challenges.”

Autentic CEO Patrick Hörl added: “The development of the market calls for a strong, genre-specific distribution system that uses the most modern technology. We have set up the infrastructure in such a way that we can also deliver speedily to purely digital clients such as VoD platforms.”
