Discovery Networks International has tapped UK indie Barcroft Productions to produce outrageous pet docu-series Preposterous Pets (pictured) for Animal Planet.

The 6 x 60-minute series will travel the world and introduce audiences to eccentric pet owners keeping unusual pets such as polar bears, tigers, giraffes and alligators, realscreen can reveal.

The London-based prodco, which is the TV production arm of Barcroft Media, has also produced Body Bizarre for Discovery. Their other broadcast clients include TLC, Channel 5 and National Geographic Channel.

“Animal antics combined with the stories of the extraordinary people around the world who care for them is sure to be a winning combination,” said Helen Hawken, commissioner for animal content at Discovery Networks International, in a statement.

“This new series is the perfect blend of warmth, humor and jeopardy to capture the hearts and minds of the Animal Planet audience.”
