Electus is remaking the classic hidden camera series Candid Camera for U.S. cable network TV Land.

A coproduction between the multimedia studio and Peter Funt’s Candid Camera Inc., the 10-episode series will begin airing this summer.

The executive producers are Electus founder Ben Silverman and show co-host Funt, who is the son of show’s original creator and host Alen Funt. Larry W. Jones and Keith Cox will serve as exec producers for TV Land.

In a statement, Funt said the revamped version will be “daring but respectful, funny yet insightful.” He has hosted 150 episodes of the show since taking over from his father, who suffered a stroke in 1993.

The original Candid Camera debuted in 1948 and ran for 50 years through several iterations and hosts. The show plays hidden camera pranks on unsuspecting people who are eventually let in on the gag with the tagline, “Smile, you’re on Candid Camera!”

A second co-host and other casting will be announced later.

TV Land airs a mix of originals sitcoms and syndicated programs such as Gunsmoke, The Brady Bunch, Roseanne, Married with Children, The Golden Girls and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
