Danish broadcaster SBS Discovery has commissioned a local version of Banijay Group’s reality talent franchise Popstars for Kanal 5.

The series previously aired over four seasons on Denmark’s TV2 between 2001 and 2004, and the revived format is slated to air this fall. The show – which will be made by Banijay Group’s Danish production company Nordisk Film TV – has already begun the casting process.

Popstars was originally created by Banijay Group company Screentime.

Popstars offers fantastic feel-good entertainment for the whole family, which is the DNA of Kanal 5,” said Maiken Wexø, program director at SBS Discovery, in a statement. “We are looking forward to building a brand new fanbase for the show in Denmark.”

Peter Hansen, CCO at Nordisk Film TV, added: “From the first auditions to the reveal of the group in the final episode, Popstars presents a unique series, focusing on aspects such as the contestants’ personalities and relationships as they live in a shared house and strive to shine before the judging panel.”
