Discovery Networks UK & Ireland has hired senior UKTV exec Clare Laycock (pictured) to serve as channel head for flagship entertainment channel TLC.

Laycock most recently served as general manager and channel head for UKTV-owned networks Really, Home and Good Food. In her new role, she will lead the strategic development of TLC UK, which launched in April 2013.

Her appointment marks a return to Discovery, where she held various roles for 14 years from 1992 to 2006, including serving as VP and channel director for Discovery Home & Health and Discovery Kids.

Susanna Dinnage, Discovery Networks UK & Ireland’s exec VP and MD, said: “TLC exploded onto the UK TV landscape one year ago. It has had a strong start and is continuing to challenge the status quo amongst other entertainment brands.

“Clare’s appointment as head of TLC will help us to focus further on building TLC at the heart of the television landscape. Clare brings fantastic experience of building entertainment channel brands and has an impressive track record.”
