Shine International has acquired global rights to Rome: The World’s First Superpower, coproduced by UK indie 360 Production and GroupM Entertainment for Channel 5.

The four-part series traces the history of Rome from its civic origins to its emergence as a mighty empire, while also looking at the major historical figures – from Hannibal and Julius Caesar to Spartacus and Cleopatra – who figure in its story.

The deal was brokered by Georgia Brown, SVP of acquisitions and Amy Dowsett, senior acquisitions manager for Shine International; and Mark Wright, managing director of 360Production and Ali Hill, head of international for GroupM Entertainment.
