TIFF ’14: Universal Pictures Int’l Ent nabs “Sunshine Superman”

Universal Pictures International Entertainment has picked up international sales rights for BASE jumping doc Sunshine Superman (pictured), ahead of its world premiere at TIFF later this week.

Universal Pictures International Entertainment (UPIE) has picked up international sales rights for BASE jumping doc Sunshine Superman (pictured), ahead of its world premiere at TIFF later this week.

In addition, Josh and Dan Braun of Submarine will handle North American sales at the festival for the film, which is the feature doc debut for director Marah Strauch.

Sunshine Superman tells the story of Carl Boenish, who helped pioneer and popularize the activity of BASE jumping in the 1970s and 80s. The doc exclusive archival 16 mm footage, shot by Boenish himself, as well as dramatic re-enactments to capture his story.

Samantha Horley from The Salt Company brokered the deal with UPIE, on behalf of the filmmakers.

The doc will have its world premiere in Toronto at 7 p.m. EST on Thursday (September 4), with additional screenings on September 5 and 14.
