Channel 4 commissioning editor Nick Hornby (pictured) is joining London-based indie Blast! Films as its head of programs.
Hornby joined the UK pubcaster as commissioning editor for factual entertainment in 2011, and moved on to work in features in June 2013. His credits include Bodyshockers: My Tattoo Hell, The Hoarder Next Door, Jamie’s Comfort Food and Blast!’s Supervet series.
Prior to joining Channel 4, Hornby served as a series director at Maverick Television, where he oversaw the C4 program The Model Agency. Before that, he was head of factual at North One Television.
In his new role at the Cops and Robbers producer, Hornby will work as an executive producer alongside Alistair Pegg, David Hodgkinson and Alex Sutherland, who will all oversee a range of new series from the UK and U.S.
“We’re growing quickly at the moment and the range of Nick’s program-making skills will really help us,” said Edmund Coulthard, CEO of Blast! Films, in a statement. “Having worked at Blast! as a producer and director in the past, Nick totally gets our DNA.
“There’s a real demand for the kind of blue-chip factual content Blast! is known for right now, and I’m really excited to have such a talented team to help us fulfill it,” he said.
Hornby added: “For 20 years now Blast! has been one of the best independent production companies in British TV. We share the same core values and I’m looking forward to joining such a fantastic team as the company grows and develops.”
