Pierluigi Gazzolo, Viacom International Media Networks’ (VIMN) COO, who since July has been acting as interim MD of VIMN Americas for the departed Sofia Ioannou, is now its president.
With responsibility for VIMN Americas’ operations across Latin America, South America and Canada – including Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and U.S. Hispanic – Gazzolo will relocate from New York to Miami to take up his duties and will report to VIMN president and CEO Bob Bakish.
Aside from overseeing the expansion of VIMN’s portfolio of TV channels, including today’s (November 14) Paramount Channel launch, he will also supervise investment in local original productions for MTV, Nickelodeon and Comedy Central, and multi-platform products and services such as the Nick App and My Nick Jr.
Gazzolo will also retain his role as the Nickelodeon brand lead for all markets outside the U.S., with Nick centralized programming, marketing, creative, consumer products and international program sales teams continuing to report to him.
“Prior to becoming COO, [Pierluigi] was instrumental in establishing our business across the Americas and setting it on a path to growth,” Bakish said in a statement. “He is returning to take charge of a much larger operation that still has significant scope to expand.”
Gazzolo first assumed duties as VIMN’s COO in January 2011, and previously served as COO of MTV Networks International and president of MTV Networks Latin America.
VIMN is currently searching for a replacement for his COO position.
