U.S. network WE tv is developing an unscripted series focusing on the stars of Latin American soap operas.

Set in Miami and produced by Matador, The Real Women of Telenovelas will follow the lives of both high profile and fledgling Latin actors.

“The world of telenovelas has everything we look for in a WE tv show: compelling characters, conflict, consequence and comic relief,” said WE tv president Marc Juris in a statement.

“We could not be more excited about this project and bringing these beautiful women and their stories and highly charged relationships to WE tv viewers. I think we’ll find the lines on the scripts in these TV dramas sometimes pale in comparison to real life.”

A WE tv spokesperson added that further details about the series - including the number and length of episodes, as well as potential stars – would be announced if the series moves beyond development and into production.
