Zurich-headquartered distributor First Hand Films has secured a slate of pre-sales for Ido Haar’s documentary Thru You Princess (pictured).

The doc – which was a Central Pitch presentation at November’s IDFA Forum, as reported by realscreen – follows Israeli musician Kutiman and his relationship with a little-known YouTube singer named ‘Princess,’ whom he discovers online and incorporates into his latest album.

The film – a coproduction between Israeli channel Yes Docu, France 4 and Canada’s CBC – has been picked up by France TV, CBC, Sweden’s SVT and the Netherlands’ VPRO. The film will also be presented to buyers at the forthcoming MIPTV market in Cannes.

“We love this one. It’s Romeo and Juliet told through music,” said Esther van Messel, CEO of First Hand Films, in a statement.

“The film has so many layers. It touches on the relationship between two musicians at opposite ends of the world, it is modern in its portraying of creativity on the Internet, and together with our partners we feel that this story will be a wonderful symphony viewers will really find engaging,” she added.
