Channel 4 has ordered a full season of The Secret Life of Four Year Olds (pictured) from Zodiak Media-owned RDF Television.

The UK pubcaster initially aired the program as a one-off documentary in February and it became the channel’s best performing show in the 8 p.m. time slot over the preceding 12 months, with a consolidated audience of more than 3.5 million.

The special followed a group of children who met and interacted in a specially equipped nursery overseen by educational neuroscientist Paul Howard-Jones and developmental psychologist Sam Wass.

The upcoming 7 x 60-minute series will bring back that original group of children for a Christmas special before going on to explore the lives of five and six year-olds in addition to a new group of four-year-olds. The series will take place in a single location adapted for each age group. Howard-Jones and Wass will also return alongside additional observational scientists.

RDF Television is producing in association with the Wellcome Trust. Exec producer is Teresa Watkins, series director is Nicola Brown and Sara Ramsden is the commissioning editor for Channel 4.

Zodiak Media is handling worldwide distribution and will debut the format at MIPTV in Cannes this month.
