BBCWW, Netflix bring “Planet Earth” to stream Stateside

BBC Worldwide North America and Netflix have teamed up to bring the original UK broadcast version of the BBC's Planet Earth: The Complete Series (pictured) to U.S. audiences.

BBC Worldwide North America and Netflix have teamed up to bring the original UK broadcast version of the BBC’s Planet Earth: The Complete Series to U.S. audiences.

The docuseries – which is streaming Stateside for the first time - is available on Netflix beginning today, coinciding with the 45th anniversary of Earth Day.

The Emmy Award-winning series – narrated by Sir David Attenborough – was filmed by 71 camera operators across 62 countries, using cutting-edge shooting techniques and technology ranging from revolutionary aerial lens stabilization to ultra-high-speed cameras. Planet Earth is distributed by BBC Worldwide North America.

Other BBC wildlife documentaries, including Blue Planet, Bears: Spy in the Woods and Life will also be available on Netflix starting today.

In other BBC Worldwide news, the Sony Pictures Television-backed Multi Screen Media Private Limited (MSM) and the commercial arm of the British pubcaster are forming a strategic partnership to launch premium factual channel BBC Earth in India.

MSM runs the Sony network of TV channels in India and operates and distributes several channels across the country. BBC Worldwide will draw on its catalog of programming for the channel, which is billed as showcasing “the work of the world’s foremost factual film makers.”
