Discovery Networks Latin America/U.S. Hispanic (DLA/USH) has reshuffled its corporate leadership with the upping of two of its execs: Allan Navarrete (pictured, right) and Angela Recio Sondon (left).
Appointed GM for Discovery U.S. Hispanic, Navarrete will be tasked with leading business development within the company’s selection of Spanish-language networks throughout America, including Discovery en Español and Discovery Familia. Navarrete’s new role will coincide with his current tasks as exec VP and GM of Mexico, Andean Region and Central America for Discovery Networks Latin America.
“Allan is a strong, strategic and collaborative leader and has played a critical role in our success in the Mexican region in addition to managing the Colombian and Central American markets and leading their growth,” said Enrique R. Martinez, president and managing director of DLA/USH, in a statement.
Navarrete has previously held positions for Discovery that include VP for channel distribution for the U.S. Hispanic market and senior VP and GM for Mexico for DLA/USH. He will be based in Mexico City and report directly to Martínez.
Previous GM and SVP of ad sales for DLA/USH Ivan Bargueiras continues in the ad sales SVP role.
Meanwhile, DLA/USH has also tapped Angela Recio Sondon as VP of content for the network’s U.S. Hispanic division. Effective immediately, Recio Sondon will be charged with implementing procedures for programming, marketing, communications and digital efforts for Discovery en Español and Discovery Familia. As well, she will act as intermediary between the advertising and sales departments within the company.
“[Recio Sondon's] leadership skills, creativity and strong relationships in the industry will further our success as we continue to fortify our presence in the U.S. Hispanic market and invest in new content,” added Carolina Lightcap, head of content for DLA/USH, to whom Recio Sondon will continue to report from Discovery’s Miami office.
Recio Sondon, who began her career at the network a decade ago, most recently held the role of VP of program sourcing and acquisitions for DLA/USH, where she managed the entire division’s sourcing of owned and acquired content. She has also served as VP and channel director for the factual, lifestyle, kids and emerging channels where she groomed the positioning, strategy and promotion of DLA/USH’s networks.
