Japanese public broadcaster NHK’s English-language international broadcast service NHK World TV will premiere an online VOD offering on June 15.

The news comes in response to requests from global viewers to watch programs a second time, the pubcaster said in a statement.

The service will be free of charge to users worldwide. It will debut with 13 programs that have been broadcast within the past few weeks allowing viewers to catch up to series missed before they disappear from the online service. Major debate and travel programs containing useful information for visitors to the island nation will remain available for transmission for longer periods, NHK says.

While the lineup of NHK World TV series will be steadily expanded, current factual programs on the service include Asia Insight, Core Kyoto, Dining with the Chef, Global Agenda, Great Gear, Her Story, Imagine-Nation, Japan Railway Journal, Journeys in Japan, Kawaii International, Science View and Tokyo Eye 2020.
