UK-based Pioneer Productions and South Korean production company PAAN Media have formed a joint venture, Buzz Media, to develop and produce factual content for UK, Korean and international broadcasters.
The new venture is geared towards producing a range of factual content, including 4K science and natural history content as well as character-led access docs and fact ent formats.
Pioneer MD Kirstie McLure (pictured) will oversee operations for the Seoul-based prodco. Patrick Youngtaek Suh has been appointed as CEO and will oversee the day-to-day running of the business.
Pioneer and PAAN Media first worked together on the upcoming Treasures of the Earth project. The 3 x 60-minute series, commissioned for PBS science strand ‘NOVA’ and also set to air on KBS in Korea, explores the origins of and geology behind the world’s most precious materials. The series is being distributed globally by PBS International.
“Korea is such a dynamic and forward thinking market,” said McLure in a statement. “Its talent base and CGI capabilities are incredible and they are way ahead of the game in terms of 4K, making it the perfect time to form a bridge between the two territories.
“Not only will the joint venture compliment everything that Pioneer is doing with content, it will also take us to new technological frontiers and cement our presence in Asia,” she added.
